How Do I Use a Custom Domain for My Smart Links?
A key feature of SlickText is the ability to track and improve the performance of text campaigns using Smart Links. Smart Links allow users to create a text friendly url and track clicks on links that are sent via text message.
By default, SlickText provides a native shortened link domain (for example, slktxt.io) that our customers can use. However, it’s best practice and highly beneficial for brands to set up their own custom, branded domain, which can be easily connected to SlickText for tracking.
[Note: We highly recommend using a unique domain for link shortening purposes due to specific DNS requirements. We do not recommend using your current website domain for this.]
Benefits of using a Custom Brand Domain
- Unique and exclusive to your brand
- CTR increases by 34% for branded links*
- Looks more on-brand and trustworthy
- Easy to set up on SlickText and capture clicks, revenue, etc.
- Small cost depending on domain price.

How to Set Up:
-
Purchase a domain from a third-party registrar (like GoDaddy.com). Keep character count in mind when searching for a domain. Remember, ideally, this domain will be used exclusively with your SlickText account, so we recommend not using the domain you already use for your website.
-
DNS changes are required. To make changes, log in to your domain hosting account.
-
Navigate to the DNS Settings page.
-
Delete any existing A records for the root domain.
-
Add a new record for the root domain name:
Record Type: A (or @)
Hostname: Leave it empty
